EPS and partners conduct sweep of North Saskatchewan shoreline

The Edmonton Police Service and several of its partnering organizations will be conducting a sweep of the North Saskatchewan River shoreline today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, in an effort to locate any unreported/reported missing persons and/or potential human remains

Led by the EPS Missing Persons Unit, this initiative will utilize flight and ground operations from the EPS Flight Operations Section (Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems), RCMP (helicopter), Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, City of Edmonton Park Rangers, as well as the Search and Rescue Dog Association of Alberta.

"This is an initiative that takes place each year when the water levels start to fall," says Sgt. John Smith with the EPS Missing Persons Unit. "This is a proactive deployment that utilizes specialized equipment from EPS and our partners, focusing on the primary river artery that travels throughout our city."

The search commences at the EPS boat launch, located near the EPCOR water treatment facility, and will stretch east and west along the river’s shoreline.
