Beginning Wednesday, Jan 22. 2020, police received multiple reports that bronze memorial plaques had been removed from city benches in the area of 100 Avenue between 116 Street and 120 Street. In total 135 plaques had reportedly been stolen.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2020, Clinton Kneller, 46, was arrested without incident at a local scrap metal dealer where he was reportedly attempting to exchange the plaques for money. Kneller has since been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2), fraud under $5,000 and trafficking stolen property over $5,000.
More than 100 of the plaques have been recovered to date.
