Charges laid in fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 43-year-old man in relation to a fatal collision that occurred in December 2017.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a 29-year-old female pedestrian died in hospital after allegedly being struck by a truck in an unmarked crosswalk in the area of James Mowatt Trail SW and Desrochers Gate SW/Allard Boulevard SW.

It was reported that the female had been travelling eastbound across James Mowatt Trail SW, toward Allard Boulevard SW, when she was struck by a Dodge Ram driven by a 43-year-old male.

Excessive speed, alcohol and drugs were not considered factors in this collision.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section has since charged Jason Roberts-Kowalchuk, 43, of Beaumont with careless driving and fail to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under the Traffic Safety Act.
