During the 24-hour enforcement period from Wednesday, Sept. 20, to Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, there were 1,910 speeding tickets issued by EPS officers and automated enforcement. Other Traffic Safety Act violations, including distracted driving, accounted for 576 of the total violations issued. There were also six Criminal Code offences.
On Wednesday, Sept. 20, members with the EPS Traffic Section stopped a black BMW X5 in the area of 111 Avenue and 97 Street. While conducting the vehicle stop, officers discovered the 40-year-old female driver had an outstanding traffic warrant and the 34-year-old male passenger was breaching conditions. In addition, the passenger was in possession of drugs, weapons, break-and-enter tools and stolen financial information. The driver was subsequently issued several traffic violations and a promise to appear and the passenger was taken into custody and charged with multiple criminal code offences, including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2), possess break-and-enter tools and possess stolen property (x2).
