Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement Unit takes more drugs off the street

The Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Unit arrested a male and took drugs out of circulation that were headed to our city streets.

Police conducted a search warrant on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 at a residence in the area of 119 Avenue and 85 Street in relation to an on-going investigation.

Police seized the following from the residence:  

• More than $52,000 in Canadian currency.
• 504.2 g Cocaine hydrochloride with a street value up to $50,402.
• 89.2 g Cocaine Base with a street value up to $8,920.
• 102.5 g of methamphetamine with a street value up to $10,250.
• 195.4 g of MDMA with a street value up to $ 5,632.
• 56 Fentanyl pills with a street value up to $2,260.
• 36 Codeine pills with a street value up to $180.
• 4 Xanax pills with a street value up to $20.
• 2011 Mercedes Benz GLK350 was seized under civil forfeiture.
• Three watches including a Rolex worth $25,000.

“Any amount of drugs off of our city streets means that a life was potentially saved,” says Acting Insp. Kevin Berge with EDGE Unit.

Recently, the EPS has responded to a number of sudden deaths that are suspected to be linked to Fentanyl. The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office is yet to confirm the cause of deaths, pending toxicology results.

The EPS wants to remind the public of the potent dangers of using drugs. This year, the EPS has responded to over 300 overdose-related calls for service.

“You can never know what you could be ingesting,” says Berge.
